- The first company is Tommy Hilfiger. It was started by namesake Thomas Jacob “Tommy” Hilfiger in 1985 with his college roommate, 19-year old Ricky Strauss who worked for the Gap. They opened up two retail stores and sold preppy clothing to young people at Mr. Turk’s store on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills.
- The second company is Calvin Klein, started by the eponymous designer in 1968. His first line was an early success and he later became known for his minimalist glamour-based collections which featured exquisite tailoring with innovative cuts to create a lean yet curvaceous fit that complemented women’s natural figures. The name of this clothing line is Calvin Klein Collection.
- The third company is Ralph Lauren, started by designer and American fashion icon Ralph Lifshitz in 1967 with a line of men’s ties. He then expanded into a menswear collection including leather goods such as shoes, belts, bags, and luggage which led to the launch of Polo Ralph Lauren clothing for women and children in 1971. In 1979, the company changed its name from “Ralph Lauren” to “Polo Ralph Lauren”.
